Atom Heart Mother verscheen op 10 augustus 1970 en zit daardoor tussen Ummagumma en Meddle in. Qua song setup heeft het album veel weg van Meddle; een lang nummer op één kant van de plaat en de rest op de andere kant. Qua experimenteerdrift ligt hij dichter bij Ummagumma. Op kant B van Atom Heart Mother staan solo contributies van ieder bandlid, met uitzondering van het laatste nummer Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. Atom Heart Mother wordt net als Ummagumma door vrijwel alle bandleden verguist als overdreven pompeus of omschreven als een artistiek dieptepunt.
