Sleater-Kinney vestigde haar naam natuurlijk al in de tweede helft van de jaren negentig, dankzij albums als Call The Doctor en Dig Me Out. Het trio uit het noordwesten van de Verenigde Staten wist het momentum echter knap vast te houden tot 2005, toen het welluidende album The Woods aangaf dat de band nog steeds meetelde. Het was opvallend dat de groep na een pauze van 10 jaar met het prima No Cities To Love haar grootste publiek ooit trok.
