Misschien was het allemaal net teveel van het goede en werd het te onoverzichtelijk en te groot. De indierockers van het uit Chicago afkomstige Smith Westerns leveren drie prachtplaten met een hoog gehalte aan glamrock powerpop songs af. Op het zweverige Soft Will ontwikkelt zich een duister randje over de lichtvoetige songs en blijkbaar zit die confronterende zwarte kant zo diep in de jonge zielen geworteld dat ze besluiten om niet meer in deze samenstelling verder te gaan, exit Smith Westerns. Cullen Omori blijft op The Diet redelijk dicht bij het dromerige latere Smith Westerns werk. En Max Kakacek en Julien Ehrlich? Tja, dat is een ander verhaal. Als Whitney...
