Dik zeven jaar lang alleen maar juichverhalen, uitverkochte concerten en een alsmaar groeiende schare fans die hunkerend uitkijken naar een nieuw album. Je kunt je als The XX geen betere uitgangspositie bedenken als je in 2017 met je derde album de boer op gaat. Als iets duidelijk wordt op I See You, dan is het wel de steeds grotere invloed die het tot nu toe meest anonieme bandlid Jamie Smith (de man achter de knoppen) op dit album speelt. Dat hoorden we al op de eerste single On Hold (al bijna 50 miljoen keer gestreamd op de verschillende platforms) en bij beluistering van de overige negen tracks op het album...
