Om na vier prachtige albums nog steeds de status als het best bewaarde geheim van de muziekscene hebben, daar ben je wel een keer klaar mee. Ook benamingen als veelbelovend en vernieuwend mag je ondertussen wel weglaten. Beirut gaat gewoon op de ingeslagen weg verder, omdat dit nu eenmaal het kenmerkende geluid is. En hiermee maken ze al vanaf 2006 indruk mee. Op Gallipoli geen knieval voor een specifiekere benadering, nog steeds het mistroostige Balkan geluid welke Zach Condon als souvenir vanuit Europa naar thuisbasis New York meeneemt. Deze schatten aan muzikale inspiratie laat hij niet bij de douane achter, maar smokkelt hij ongestraft de Verenigde Staten binnen. Live op...
