Na een voorgeschiedenis bij The Stone Poneys, een folktrio met Bob Kimmel en Kenny Edwards, dat vanuit Arizona in Los Angeles belandt, kiest Linda Ronstadt eind jaren zestig voor het solopad. De Texaanse zangeres met Mexicaanse roots is geen songwriter maar grasduint uitvoerig in het folk countryrock en honky tonk oeuvre met Handsome… Home Grown en Silk Purse. Op de derde titelloze langspeler in ‘72 figureert de voltallige line-up van de latere Eagles, naast sessielui van Muscle Shoals. Onder impuls van De Britse in LA gestrande producer Peter Asher en Kenny Edwards aangevuld met de fine fleur van sessiemuzikanten uit LA evolueert La Ronstadt naar meer geraffineerd popgetint werk.
