De muzikale geest van Elvis Costello is onverzadigbaar. Ook op zijn onderhand 32ste album The Boy Named If schudt hij de geweldige songs weer schijnbaar moeiteloos uit zijn mouw. Songs die teruggrijpen naar zijn eerste decennia als songschrijver en muzikant en verrassenderwijs, Costello is ook alweer 67 jaar, al net zo fris klinken. Natuurlijk ligt de klasse van The Boy Named If niet alleen aan Costello zelf. Zijn songs zijn weer geweldig en zijn stem klinkt nog steeds prima, het is natuurlijk ook zijn band die dit nieuwe album zo ijzersterk maakt.
