Weergaloos terugkomen en maart kort daarna besluiten jezelf op te doeken, het lijkt een onvoorstelbaar verhaal maar het Australische Midnight Oil doet het. Met het duidelijke statement erbij dat de band in de kracht van hun bandleven wil stoppen, geen band zonder kracht op het podium wil zijn. Met Resist, hun dertiende album, vieren ze hun terugkomst en vertrek krachtig en majestueus. De band nokte er eerder mee. Na dertig jaar albums opnemen en de wereld over trekken, stapte zanger Peter Garrett in 2002 uit de band de politiek in om daar zijn idealen na te streven.
