Met Paint This Town van Old Crow Medicine Show kom je in een heuse revival van alt-country terecht. Robuuste extraverte americana vol geestdrift en hectiek. Countryzang, banjo, harmonica, strijkers en drums, ja, The Old Crows zijn zuiderse mannen met karakter die duidelijk hun stiel kennen. Ze doen nu wel swingend en opgewekt, maar misschien is het ook wel om de pijn van de ziel van frontmant-songschrijver Ketch Secor en bij uitbreiding die van ons te verzachten. Want op dit album zijn, naast de liefde, politieke stellingnames à la Springsteen en donkere gedachten allerhande absoluut niet veraf.
