Voor Nikki Lane begon het in Nashville, op haar zeventiende werd ze van schoolbanken verbannen in Greenville, Carolina en  verkaste ze naar Los Angeles, om via New York City in country city te stranden. Haar zelfgeschreven songs belanden op het debuut Walk Of Shame. De zangeres bleef actief in het ontwerpen van kleren in haar vintage shop, zo ontmoette ze Dan Auerbach op een rommelmarkt. De frontman van The Black Keys bood haar studiotijd en muzikale hulp aan. Op All Or Nothing werd de countrybasis verruimd met meer dynamische elementen uit funk en surfrock. Het ambitieuze, zelfgeproduceerde Highway Queen bereikte het grote publiek en er volgde een intense, uitputtende  tourperiode....
