Vorig jaar kwam Taj Mahal nog verrassend aanzetten met Get On Board, een in samenwerking met Ry Cooder tot stand gekomen project. De geïnspireerde remake, gebaseerd op het oorspronkelijk album uit 1952 van het illustere bluesduo Sonny Terry en Brownie McGhee bracht de illustere muzikanten die in jaren zestig in LA bij The Rising Sons figureerden, terug samen. Nu graaft Mahal nog wat dieper, Savoy gaat terug tot de jaren dertig. In de Savoy Ballroom ontmoetten zijn ouders elkaar, vader een pianist met Caraibische roots , moeder een onderwijzeres uit Zuid Carolina waagde zich al eens aan een gospelhymne.
