Oklahoma was altijd een vruchtbare kweekvijver voor muzikaal talent, “this land is your land” zong de tijdens de Dust Bowl  naar Californië uitgeweken Woody Guthrie. In de New Yorkse Greenwich Village wijk  legde Guthrie samen met Pete Seeger de fundamenten van de folkrevival legde die piekte met de komst van Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Rush, Joan Baez, Judy Collins… en de Newport Festivals. Ook jazzman Chet Baker, Lee Hazlewood, countrylui Garth Brooks en Vince Gill stammen uit Oklahoma. Of het nu jazz, country of andere stijlen betreft zoals de unieke signature sound van JJ Cale.
