De uit Louisiana afkomstige bluesman Leslie Johnson begon als jonge tiener gitaar te spelen bij Raful Neal in Baton Rouge. In Louisiana werkte hij samen met Lightnin’ Hopkins en Slim Harpo. Een busreis naar Nashville met Lightnin’ Slim veranderde zijn leven, tijdens een studiosessie met producer Jay Miller voor Excello stuurde de harmonicaspeler zijn kat, Leslie nam over en dat leidde in de late jaren  jaren vijftig naar sessies als zanger en harmonicaspeler onder de door Miller aangereikte artiestennaam Lazy Lester. Naast het wellicht onterecht  aan J.D. Miller toegeschreven werk zoals I’m A Lover Not A Fighter en Sugar Coated Love componeerde Lester swamp blues die decennia later opgepikt door...
