Door de bandkeuze voor een albumtitel als Only God Was Above Us kan ik mijn lach amper onderdrukken. Doelt Ezra Koenig hier op zijn voormalige Vampire Weekend maatje Rostam Batmanglij, de smaakmaker die zich terugtrekt, vervolgens toch weer een flinke vinger in de pap heeft, om daarna definitief de New Yorkse indierockers vaarwel te zeggen? Na de drie voortreffelijke Vampire Weekend, Contra en Modern Vampires of the City releases liet eerst al Father of the Bride net te lang op zich wachten. In 2024 volgt de een na de andere interessante plaat en ligt de aandacht veelal op het Europese gebeuren. De aandacht voor Only God Was Above Us verlegt...
