Na een periode bij  het vanuit New Brunswick opererende Flat Top profileert de Canadese muzikant  zich op recentere werkstukken als singer-songwriter en het  gevarieerde rootsrock repertoire evolueert nog sterker naar  gospelgetinte soulblues. Niet verwonderlijk, de kolos beschikt over een ongemeen krachtige strot die bovendien de nodige souplesse vertoont voor een genuanceerde benadering. Na het in Nashville tot stand gekomen Halfway Home By Morning  volgde het akoestische  House To House in de huisstudio in Nova Scotia opgenomen. The Hammer & The Rose plaatst de expressieve zang van Andersen meer dan ooit op de voorgrond in meer ingetogen passages.
