Calexico nam haar 8e album, de opvolger van Algiers (2012),  deels op in Mexico, deels in hun woonplaats Tucson. Edge of the Sun wordt gekenmerkt door een grote variatie aan stijlen: van pop tot country, latin, rock, dylanesque singer-songwritersferen, elektronische cumbia.
