De fascinatie voor muziek krijgt Emily Nenni in de Bay Area doorgespeeld van haar ouders, vader werkte voor een radiozender en was een jazz en R&B adept. Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Jessi Colter en de onvermijdelijke Hank Williams behoorden tot de favorieten van mama, met haar ouders bezocht Emily tijdens haar kindertijd talloze concerten. Die invloeden bepaalden haar levensloop, na een jaartje audio engineering hield ze haar studies aan Columbia College voor bekeken.
