Het uit Los Angeles afkomstige Phi-Sonics is een fijne band die hun spiritual jazz op hun nieuwe album Octava nieuwe glans geeft. Een album met verandering en evolutie naar een beter mens als thema’s en gevat in fraaie melodielijnen, in een introspectieve sfeer. Het was Matthew Halsall, vermaard Manchester trompettist en tevens eigenaar van Gondwana Records, die ze hoorde en gelijk een contract aanbood. De magie die bassist Seth Ford-Young, allesblazer Sylvian Carton, keyboardspeler Mitchell Yoshida en drummer Josh Collazo hebben werd zodoende onderkend en een toekomst gegeven. Met hun debuutalbum The Cradle maakte de band gelijk indruk. Met de Fender Rhodes van Yoshida en vooral de fluit van Carton...
