De vriendschap tussen Willy Vlautin en Amy Boone leverde eerder al behoorlijk fraaie werkstukken op. Na de in moeilijke omstandigheden tot stand gekomen voorganger, Boone bleef lange tijd aan een ziekenhuisbed gekluisterd na een verschrikkelijke autocrash. Het in 2019 uitgebrachte The Imperial toonde een magische wisselwerking, het literair getinte songwerk dat Vlautin voordien bij Richmond Fontaine aanleverde, wordt met doorleefde vertolkingen van zangeres Boone bedacht. Vanaf Little Earl worden we ondergedompeld in een melancholische soundtrack met mistroostige verhalen in een behaaglijke instrumentatie van golvende snarenwerk waarbij toetsen partijen met strijkers worden gelardeerd, in de verte horen we het alomtegenwoordige, mistige trompetje. Het draagt onmiskenbaar bij tot een weldadig romantische gevoel...
