“Multi-Dimensional, Polyrhythmic Gangster Shit”, zo leest het op de officiële website van de Australische band Hiatus Kaiyote. Dat klinkt als opschepperige onzin, maar verzin maar eens een duidelijke genre-aanduiding voor de muziek van dit kwartet.  De bonte mix van soul, jazz, funk, hiphop, R&B en electronic zou elk moment kunnen vervallen in een chaotisch zooitje. Deze band houdt de touwtjes echter stevig in handen, waardoor elke onlogische overgang aanvoelt als een organische evolutie binnen het nummer. Het resulteert vaak in een jamgerichte aanpak, die uiteindelijk toch weer steeds terugkeert naar de basis. Op voorganger Tawk Tomahawk werd al het grondwerk gelegd voor dit bijzondere geluid, maar Choose Your Weapon laat...
